Hi, let's get down to business You All. Y'all. You might be like who, what, when, where, and why. All right OK cool this page is for YOU.
So the long form and short form is this. I never really liked music until I was about 17 years old. Before that I liked some things - mainstream and underground hip hop (I was known as G-Spin-It and passed around CDs of my songs at school dances) and the oldies I heard while working at Johnnie Foodmaster -but I never really liked music. So what happened was this. I co-founded a website KIDS LIKE YOU AND ME chiefly inspired by ramshackle rock 'n roll.
I never knew there was this kinda stuff out there and I absorbed every inch and bit I could. Writing about bands and then finally just rocking out to them...publicly too. An approach not really taken. But that's the spirit right there. I said, hey let me try this out. I tried it out. I made my own stuff. I had it in me and I had a lot of it. I have a lot still, you'll see. The possibilities of rocking and rolling and doing it your own way based on this energy that is perpetually fresh and timeless, and every bit of contradiction, too. Definitely not stale though. SO that was it right there. I don't claim to be a MUSICIAN, not in any sense of the word that makes sense to me.
Non-Musician is something I've embraced and will continue to embrace. It's what keeps me going and always keeps things interesting. I'm no technical expert or virtuoso, I've only ever acted on impulse creatively...that's how I roll. I haven't GROWN into a 'better' musician. I didn't PLAY shows for a real long time. Every show is new and different and each one I am grateful for and enjoy being able to be on up or down there, letting things fly. My first couple of shows I played solo. After that I was fortunate to have some drummers in the mix and nowadays I usually do my thing with a full backing band.
In addition to my catch-all solo work as G. Gordon Gritty, I am the lead guitarist/supplemental vocalist of Johnnie and the Foodmasters, the wildest and most deranged '50s and '60s oldies cover band known to man. We'll play your wedding, if you want most people to leave!
